Carolina Ortiz-Dominguez

Carolina earned a BA in Geography from the Universidad Nacional de Colombia and a MSc in Geospatial Information Sciences from the University of Maryland in 2022.  She joined the GLAD team in 2021 as a Graduate Research Assistant and currently works as a Faculty Specialist. Previously she worked as a Conservation Cartographer on the Conservation Technology team at the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS).

Andre Oktaviandra

Andre obtained his Bachelor of Arts from Gadjah Mada University, Indonesia. During his undergraduate studies, he was trained in the use of geospatial technologies to understand human-nature interactions and became interested in the application of remote sensing as a forest conservation tool. Soon after he graduated, he moved to Sumatra as a research assistant in telemetry with a conservation NGO that protects Sumatran elephants. During his fieldwork in the Bukit Tigapuluh National Park ecosystem, he observed rapid land conversion at various scales.

Rohan Purekar

I have over 4 years of experience in Site Reliability Engineering and Security Engineering. I specialize in infrastructure automation, network security, and compliance. At GLAD, I manage the day-to-day operations of the websites.

Chin-yun (Grace) Kuei

Grace graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park with a bachelor degree in Geographical Data Sciences. She has experience in remote sensing research and interned as a research assistant under the NASA Harvest Project conducted by the Department of Geography. Grace now serves as a Faculty Specialist for the Global Land Analysis and Discovery lab. She oversees travel, procurement, staff and grant activities for all projects with Matthew Hansen as the primary investigator.

Emma Minnis

Emma graduated from the University of Maryland with a bachelors degree in History and a certificate in Women’s Studies. She has experience in higher education administration and previously served the Department of Geographical Sciences as an office aide. Emma now serves the department as a Faculty Specialist for the Global Land Analysis and Discovery lab. She oversees travel, procurement, staff and grant activities for all projects with Matthew Hansen and Peter Potapov as the primary investigator.

Marcos Adami

My research interests involve sampling, agricultural statistics, remote sensing time series, land cover and land use change mapping. I received a B.S. degree in Economics, a M.Sc. and a Ph.D. in Remote Sensing. Since graduating I have been working on crop area and yield forecasting. In the last 5 years, my research has been focused on Brazilian Amazon land cover and land use changes and their drivers and impacts.

Panshi Wang

Panshi received his Ph.D. in Geographical Sciences at the University of Maryland in 2017. He holds M.E. and B.E. degrees in Electronic Engineering from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the University of Science and Technology of China, respectively. He has broad interests in the filed of remote sensing, image processing and machine learning techniques for land cover mapping and change detection.

Alison Thieme

Alison has a bachelor's degree in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, a master's degree in Geographic Information Science for Development and Environment, and a master's degree in Business Administration. She is currently pursuing her PhD in Geographical Sciences at the University of Maryland. Alison is interested in measuring land cover and land use change to evaluate the impact of international development on the landscape.

Matt Cooper

Matt has a broad range of experiences at the intersection of environmental conservation, international development, and data science. He has worked at every step of the environmental data flow, from identifying plants and collecting soils samples in the field to creating predictive statistical models from large datasets using emerging analytics technologies.

Wenli Huang

Wenli Huang is a Post-Doctoral Associate of Geographical Sciences at the University of Maryland where she completed her Ph.D. in 2015.  She received her B.S. from the Wuhan University in 2006, and her M.S. from the Beijing Normal University in 2009.  Her current areas of interest cover important land cover component, including forest and water.
